IB Diploma Program

Curie offers a prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program to help academically qualified students gain a valuable competitive edge for admission to college. Offered in grades 11 and 12, this comprehensive, two-year college preparatory curriculum helps students develop the critical thinking skills and knowledge needed to excel academically after graduation. At the end of grades 11 and 12, students sit for world-wide IB examinations. Based on their exam scores, students may be awarded university credit for their IB course work at Curie. Each university has its own policy regarding credit awarded for IB scores. Students also take several AP courses during their four years at Curie.

To prepare for the IB Diploma Program, freshmen and sophomores enroll in honors and Advanced Placement courses. Once students begin the IB Diploma Program (grades 11 and 12), they take six university level courses per year in the following subjects:
  • English and World Literature
  • World Language - French or Spanish
  • Individuals and Society - History of Europe and Topics in 20th Century History
  • Experimental Sciences - Biochemical Biology or Physics
  • Mathematics (Calculus and Statistics)
  • Visual Arts or Information Technology in a Global Society
The Diploma Prep Program (9-10th grades)is open to incoming freshmen who meet the following criteria:
  • Stanine 7 (70th percentile) or above on standardized achievement tests in reading and math
  • Above-average academic performance in all major subjects
  • Excellent attendance
  • Two recommendations from teachers
  • Completion of the written application
  • A student-parent interview
