Principal's Message
My name is Phillip Perry, interim principal of Curie High
School. I became interim principal effective
August 20, 2007 after former principal Jerryelyn Jones resigned and took a new
position with CPS. Since that time I have worked to keep the school moving
forward, along with assistant principals Ana Espinoza, Cynthia Kosik, Jerel
Morris, and newly appointed assistant principal, Jose Rodriguez. The
administrative team is only one aspect of the leadership needed keep Curie
progressing. There are 18 academic departments, each with its own chairperson,
There are 3 deans, engineering, lunchroom, main office, attendance office,
nurse’s office, program office, and building security staff. Other offices
providing support for students and parents include the college and career
center, parent resource room, options for youth, and the bilingual advisory
council. A program new to Curie this year is AVID (Achievement via Individual
Determination). This program seeks to recruit and facilitate minority students
who are first generation college bound and are underrepresented at the college
and university levels. Curie has a well established International Baccalaureate
Program in addition to an evolving IB Middle Years Program. Curie also offers
AP and honors courses. Together with a teaching staff of 199, an additional 106
educational support, lunchroom and building maintenance staff members, please
be assured that all 306 plus staff members of Curie High School are all working
together to provide the best educational experience possible for all 3,200
students. We are not perfect, but I believe we can and will get better with the
help of parents, community members, and outside supports, partnering to do what
is right for the students of Curie
High School.
