Visual Impairment Program
Curie High School has a program for Visually Impaired students. Teachers of the Visually Impaired provide push-in and pull-out services depending upon the specific needs of the students as well as access to a Resource Room. In the Resource Room the students have access to Large print books, Braille books and materials, Books on tape, computers with assistive technology, CCTV's, manipulative's and is a place for students to develop their skills in their specific areas of deficit. Various strategies are taught and reinforced in order to help our Visually Impaired students succeed in the academic setting.
Our Main focus is to ensure our students receive a well rounded education that will prepare them for their Post-secondary options; whether it be a residential program, College/University, School to Work Program or Trade School. In our program students work on the Expand Core Curriculum, Post-Secondary skills, Independent living skills, Assistive Technology, and life skills needed to be successful members of the Curie community. Students enrolled in this program also attend Field Trips to expose them to different sports for individuals with disabilities, daily living skills and employment opportunities. Additionally we work with the Bureau of Blind Services to ensure students have a connection after high school.
