About Ms. Guzman
Early Life
I grew up in the Brighton Park neighborhood my whole life. I went to a charter school during elementary school but then I went to CPS high school (Whitney Young). During high school I really liked to read so naturally English was my favorite subject. Initially I wanted to just study literature but during my senior year, I had a really nice English teacher who inspired me to get a teaching degree because I loved how he was able to teach us.
I got my bachelors in "Teaching of English" at UIC during my undergrad and within a couple of months of graduating I came to Curie. I've spent the past 6 years here and I love it :) I did go back to UIC and now I have a master's in "Language, Literature, and Learning" (which is basically a degree on how to teach reading and literacy a little better).
