About Mrs. Ibarra
About Me
I am the oldest sibling of five. I was born and raised in Chicago up until age 12. Then moved to Querétaro, México, where I perfected my Spanish. I completed high school in Dallas, Texas. After high school I moved back to Chicago.
Education
I enrolled at UIC where I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Teaching of Spanish in December 2020.
What made me want to become a teacher were the lovely educators I had throughout the years that always created a safe space for me and others. I always loved going to school because of them. I hope my Spanish classrooms are a safe space for all my students to be themselves and learn about this global language.
Classes
I currently teach Spanish 1, 2 and 3. These classes are for non native speakers. It follows a sequence. Spanish 1 you start with the basics of the target language, like numbers, colors, introducing yourself. Spanish 2 you start writing paragraphs in Spanish and conjugating in both present and past tense. Spanish 3 you're able to communicate more in the target language with minimum help.
Accomplishments
It's only my third year as a teacher, but I already feel like I have accomplished one of my major goals. That is being a safe place for my students. Growing up, I always enjoyed going to school. I felt safe and comfortable. I wanted to escape the many problems at home, so that always made me look forward to school. The amazing teachers I've had throughout the years have been my motivation to one day become them. I have had students describe me as a person that cares, someone that listens to them. If they have a question about our class or about life, they feel comfortable enough to come to me. I believe one of my many purposes in life was to be where I am today.
