About Ms. Hernandez

Having grown up in Cicero, I knew from a young age my life goals. I wanted to do work that helped others, provided for me more than just surviving, and allowed for me to remain who I was at heart without compromising my morality. Teaching seemed the perfect choice. I had a wonderful opportunity at Curie High School to work with a community that felt very similar to the one I grew up in, and could feel like I was still authentic to myself. I could in theory teach anywhere, but it mattered to me that the community I taught within represented the faces and background I grew up seeing within the world. Students from all kinds of backgrounds, financial statuses, cultures, and home lives. One that I could dive into and add to if possible. While I hope I do that on a day to day basis, it was important that the faces in the classroom felt understood by the person leading it.

THE PETS !

It also allowed me to have a day to day set schedule that gave me time at home for my four legged babies. During a difficult time, which happened to coincide with my student teaching, I picked up a stray cat outside my parent's home in Cicero. I searched for her owners to no avail as she was clearly born on the streets. Unsurprisingly to anyone that saw her belly a month after picking her up, she gave birth on our couch to four kittens. The combination of my bleeding heart and love for animals ran with these new additions and decided we needed to keep them all, and that we did! Ms. Cuddles, Spooky, Paws, Tuna, and Pom-Pom became my mini family within a family. Working at this job not only fulfills my career needs, but allows for me to have time and provide for my fur babies. I hope in the future as I grow in aspirations and pursue more of my goals, I can eventually open up an animal shelter, a food truck, and a small bakery/coffee shop. Anything that continues my connection to communities, people, and animals as much as I can.
