About Anthony Martinez

Early life & Family History

I was born in Park Ridge, Illinois, and I grew up in the Chicago suburb of Wood Dale, Illinois. My great grandparents were from Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico and they moved into South Texas during the late 19th century. My grandparents were born around the turn of the 20th century in a small town named Cotulla, Texas that sits between San Antonio, Texas and the US-Mexico border. They were migrant workers and farmers that traveled all over the US looking for work during the 1920s and 1930s. My parents were born in the 1940s in the same small town of Cotulla, Texas. Having been born into a life of migrant work, they also traveled with my grandparents as farm hands all across the US. Eventually, they ended up in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois and split time between Chicago and Texas. After my dad was drafted and served and returned from Vietnam, he met my mom. They fell in love and were married soon after. By this time, they had become fully entrenched into a life of factory work in and around Chicago, Illinois. They had me in the 1980s (I mean 2006) and this is how I came to be born a Chicagoan!
Education
I attended school at University Of Illinois Chicago (UIC), before I became a teacher I used to work on media radio, I decided to become a teacher as it would be more fulfilling to become a teacher to help out the community, share my passions, and help students achieve their goals and go on the right path to success.
I also have my degree in secondary education and English.
"Literature is a journey that allows you to engage with and explore new ideas, places, passions, histories, cultures, and people!"
Interesting facts about me
Before I worked at Curie I used to work at Lane Tech College Prep High School, and George Westinghouse College Prep, I am also really interested in my hobbies and passions in life such as traveling, literature, and reading. I am also a really big baseball fan, music, and I also play instruments such as the guitar, bass, and the piano, I do really well on those.
